Applying a face mask (or a neck mask, for that matter) is a spot of self-care that we look forward to every week.

It’s “me-time” that’s relaxing, pampering and the best part is, our skin is glowing and radiant afterwards.

However, it’s important to use the right mask for your skin concerns.

When shopping around for a face mask, know your skin type and what you want to treat. Is it breakouts? Dehydration? Anti-ageing?

Likewise, using products properly is just as important. Hands up if you’ve been guilty of leaving a mask on longer than necessary.

Because face masks are a concentrated burst of active ingredients, leaving it on for longer (or using it more frequently than recommended) can work against you and actually dry out the skin or cause irritation.

And make sure to only use masks on clean skin. Removing all traces of makeup, SPF, sebum and dirt is vital to get the most benefits from a mask.

Not sure about what mask to use for your skin? Check out our recommendations below.

The best masks for face, neck and hands - sensitive skin

If you have…sensitive skin that lacks exfoliation

Try this: Malin + Goetz Brightening Enzyme Mask

What it does: A 5-minute mask with AHAs from pomegranate and pumpkin enzymes. Free from sulphates and parabens, apply 1-3 times a week for gentle exfoliation and clear, smooth skin.

The best masks for face, neck and hands - dry, dehydrated skin

If you have…dry skin that’s always thirsty for moisture

Try this: Eve Lom Moisture Mask

What it does: An intensely-hydrating mask with a cooling gel-like texture, use it twice a week to quench skin and replenish moisture levels. As a result, skin looks radiant with a healthy glow. It also helps keep skin hydrated on long flights.

The best masks for face, neck and hands - oily, blemish prone skin

If you have…oily skin that often gets congested

Try this: Malin + Goetz Clarifying Clay Mask

What it does: Clay masks are great at drawing out impurities and absorbing excess sebum. With botanical extracts and sunflower oils to keep skin hydrated, this Malin + Goetz clay mask can be used 1-2 times a week alongside other acne-fighting skincare.

The best masks for face, neck and hands - ageing, saggy skin

If you have…skin that’s starting to sag

Try this: Dr. Brandt Needles No More 3-D Filler Mask

What it does:
This leave-on mask for mature skin is designed to be used daily and gives similar results to Botox, without the needles or high cost. It plumps up crow’s feet, frown lines and wrinkles, while adding hydration and boosting collagen.

The best masks for face, neck and hands - busy people

If you have…no time to put on a face mask

Try this: Dr. Brandt Oxygen Facial Flash Recovery Mask

What it does: This mask only needs 3 minutes to rejuvenate dull, tired skin and was inspired by Dr. Brandt’s most popular facial in his clinic. It oxygenates and purifies skin to erase signs of fatigue, revealing a healthy, well-rested complexion.

The best masks for face, neck and hands -- wrinkled neck

If you have…been neglecting your neck

Try this: Talika Bio Enzymes Mask — Anti-age Neck

What it does: Wrinkles and sagging skin on the neck betray all efforts in maintaining a youthful face. This neck mask by Talika will revitalise the skin and is made with enzymes, collagen and hyaluronic acid. Use as an intensive treatment twice a week to see a visibly younger neck in a month.

The best masks for face, neck and hands - ageing wrinkled hands

If you have…hands that are ageing faster than your face

Try this: Talika Hand Moisturising Gloves

What it does: Signs of ageing on the hands include wrinkles, age spots and thinning skin from the loss of collagen. These Talika moisturising gloves are worn 30-45 minutes, 2-3 times a week, and releases moisturising agents to smooth the skin and minimise lines.
